Naledi Love Letters
Poetry in color communicating the story of love.
For centuries colored beadwork often referred to as “talking beads” have taken on a social significance in many African cultures. During courtship, when the codes of a traditionalist society are strictly enforced, the poetry of beadwork was often the only way for lovers to communicate. No words necessary as the color combinations were understood. The love letter became the equivalent of the engagement ring.
No one is better suited to reinterpret this beautiful poetry into a unique jewelry collection than designer Daniel Jacobs. His family ties with Africa and its people can be traced back over 300 years. His ancestors were European explorers that found a continent with an impassioned native inhabitant fierce in battle, yet ardent in pursuit of romantic expression through their colorful beadwork.
